Golfers Elbow
12 May 2012
Has anyone got any history of Golfers Elbow ?
I used to play once/twice a week but have been out of the game for nearly 2 years now only managing the occasional game. Only managing 5 or 6 games last year I really thought it had gone this year after giving it a solid 5 month rest over the winter but NO it's now worse than it has ever been and they have now offered me surgery !!! I've heard mainly bad things about the surgery and it only has a 50/50 chance of working in the first place, What should I do has anyone got any experience???? PLEASE HELP !!!

Hi, yes I have had it badly about three or four years ago. Very painful and frustrating.
I have to say (touchwood) I haven't had it since.
The things I have found to help it in no particular order are try a magnetic bracelet/necklace I.e. trion:z
This gel keep it in the bag http://www.pcpdirect.co.uk/Pharmacy/Pain-Relief-Topical/771-Voltarol-Emugel-P-50g.html
Or a cortisone injection seemed to work for a while then wears off.
Or try one of these http://www.physioroom.com/product/Aircast_Pneumatic_Armband/3074/37869.html
All seemed to help would probably recommend the armband or voltoral gel..
Hope this helps cheers.

i had golfers elbow a few years ago and went to a physiotherapist about it. the exercise i was given involves a weighted bucket up to about 3/4 full of sand. bend over to pick up the bucket but keep the arm holding the bucket straight. take the weight by taking the strain of raising the bucket by pushing with the free arm on, say, a chair back. you should now be in a slightly bent over position and the bucket swinging free. turn the bucket alternately clockwise and ant-clockwise about 20 times and do this about twice a day. start off with a light weight of sand in the bucket and gradually increase the amount of sand [or earth] until the bucket gets up to the 3/4 full mark. you should not at any stage get any pain. if you do, then do the exercise less vigorously or decrease the weight in the bucket. not only will this fix the golfer's elbow, but it will increase the strength in your wrist and the distance you hit the ball. when your golfer's elbow is cured do the exercise occasionally to keep the problem away.
this worked for me, so i hope it works for you.
I would always avoid cortisone and surgery wherever possible.

I suffer from this also, exacerbated by tennis and gardening. I am trying a course of accupuncture and initial results very encouraging (on my bad back as well). Seems to speed up the healing process, so maybe give it a go before trying surgery?

If you don't drop your elbow - relax the arm while swinging can result in this . Magnetic wrist bands help as does aguapuncher I am told .But get your swing sorted out by a pro around your age .
