Equality Bill

How has your club dealt with the Equality bill – ladies & gents to pay equal fees for equal access, which is becoming law in the Autumn? I have heard that some clubs have changed mens & ladies memberships to be 7 day & 6 day memberships & either gender can be a member of either class. Has anyone any experience of this being successful? I have also heard that 6 day membership means you can play at 5.30 on a Saturday i.e. after the comp. What do you think is the best & fairest way to deal with the Equality Bill?

I thought that the Equality Bill was mainly consolidating legislation to bring together all the different acts and regulations that are around, I don't think theres much new except for public bodies.

Whats not fair is a discount for couples over two single adult memberships....or these juniors who get in for free then win all the b***** prizes )

I believe the only true route to equality is for men and women to be treated the same, both on and off the course. I would be happy for women to play on our course at any time and be able to enter any competitions at the club. I would also expect the women to play off the same tees as the men and play off their club handicap with no courtesy shots, surely this is equality. I believe the bad press handed out to women is very unjust, as at my club the ladies in most cases get round the course is a very timely fashion playing a good level of golf. I feel that some men are more guilty of holding up the course through slow play than women, either by mimicing the time taken to play a shot by the pros on the TV, or just lack of skill. Now don't get me wrong, I realise everyone has to learn the game, but few of these people seem to realise the call through courtesy that can be shown. The reason I mention this is that slow play seems to be the main criticism of ladies, and men can be just as guilty. Last week I shot a 71 in a scratch medal and was beaten by a lady who shot 74 off a course that was 600yards shorter than the mens and then was given 4 courtesy shots, who believes that this should also be changed to achieve true equality?
