Collingham and Wood crowned champions at Goodwood
In glorious September weather, the fourth Season of Flying Club Swingers came to a close last Friday, as 40 golfers battled it out in the grand final at the stunning Golf at Goodwood in West Sussex.
In near perfect weather conditions for golf, the beautiful downland course proved to be a tough test for all with thick rough penalising any wayward shots and greens slick enough to test even the best putters.
In the Fun Swingers Final, Chris Wood was crowned champion with a fine score of 31 points playing off a handicap of 10. Runner-up was Joel Woolrich on 30 points with Ken Daly finishing third on 27 points.
The Club Swingers Final proved to be a closer affair but Season 3 runner-up, Janet Collingham, went one better this season to claim the coveted trophy, with a fine score of 31 points playing off a scratch handicap. Runner-up was Barrie Morris who just edged out Richard Bird into third place on countback after both players were tied on 30 points. As winners, both Chris and Janet received two Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy tickets, a Callaway golf bag, a £100 Froghair Voucher and a £100 Golf bidder voucher.
This season’s final again saw a separate competition for invited Flying Club Gold members. Glen Flackett was victorious with 29 points with Nick Pulford finishing as runner-up with a very creditable 28 points.
Other winners on the day were Geoff Linnell for his booming drive on the 18th hole (Longest Drive) and Bill Smith for his pinpoint accurate tee-shot on the Par 3 12th (Nearest the Pin). Sadly nobody scooped the Volvo C-70 Coupe Convertible which was on offer for any Swinger who recorded a hole in one on the Par 3 8th hole!
A special mention must be made of Fun Swingers Chris Withe and Teresa Harrison-With, who each entered an incredible 93 scores this season and deservedly were presented with a bottle of bubbly to mark their achievement.
And finally … a special thanks to Eve Branson (Richard’s Mum) who attended the day and presented the prizes to all our winners.
