Stockport couple win Good for Golf Award
Congratulations to Paul and Tina Hill, the stewards at Stockport Golf Club, who win our May Good for Golf Award for their amazing 20 year service to the club. Their nominator Geoff Linnell explains why.
Says Geoff, "Many golf clubs in the UK have a fine and long tradition. Stockport Golf Club is no different. Consequently over the years our stewards have been long term and loyal. Thus in 1992 when the club's long standing steward decided to retire and return to Spain a change was required and, like many clubs, change is never easy."
Continues Geoff "Paul Hill and his wife Tina stepped up to take on that challenge. Right from the start Paul's quiet and unassuming style was welcomed. The excellent quality of the food produced by Tina and diligent management of the bar was immediately noticed, but you can't please all the members all the time! Some were still complaining his paella was not quite right from this newbie, 5 years later! Paul is the example of professionalism who rapidly won most members over very quickly. The team that Paul built to serve the members and supplements to arrive for a major function is testament to a great leader. Everyone who visits Stockport never fails to notice the exemplary service and quality of food. I even had the good fortune to celebrate one of my major birthdays at the club (luck of being born in November) which many of the 50 guests, over 7 years on, are still amazed at and recalling the quality of the event. I will always be personally grateful to both of them."
Concludes Geoff "Paul and Tina have provided constant, continual, superb service to all visitors and members to the point where a club noted for its excellent course in hosting major events as well as the myriad of club championships is now recognised as one of the best places to visit for its catering. Both the quality of food and quality of service continues to receive many accolades. Consequently I can think of no finer people to recommend than Paul and Tina Hill for their dedication and service over the last 20 years to Stockport Golf Club. They adhere to the club's motto better than anyone: MENS AEQUA IN ARDUIS (A Stable mind in Adversity)."
On hearing of his award Paul commented "I would like to thank Mr. Linnell for his nomination, I was honoured and proud to be nominated for the Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Swingers Good for Golf award. I have been the Steward at Stockport Golf Club for 20 years with my wife Tina. I hope that the service we provide to the members and guests is both professional and friendly. The members of staff both past and present have helped us immensely over the years and I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to them all."
