The thoughts of our Season Five 'Shot in a Million' winners appear below:

Tony Hastings (European Club Swinger)

Club Swinger Tony Hastings recently hit his 'Shot in a Million' at Rochester & Cobham Park in Kent. What made it all the more amazing was that Tony had just picked up a brand new set of Callaway FT irons from the pro shop before heading out to play, and his very first shot with his new clubs resulted in a hole-in-one!

Says Tony "Our first hole is 425yds from the white tees and I hit Driver 3 wood onto the green so never got to hit an iron on the first hole. The second is a 154yd par 3. I was first off tee and pulled out the gleaming new Callaway FT 7 Iron, which looked gorgeous, I had a few practice swings and sent it on its way. It immediately felt good heading straight for the pin, it looked all over it, and actually hit the stick about 3ft up with a thwack and shot straight into the hole. We all couldn't believe it and my whooping and yelling alerted half the course to something special and the guys from the third tee ran back and confirmed it was in the hole. What a fantastic feeling, a true shot in a million!"

Adds Tony "My playing partners were stunned and pleased of course and luckily Bob had is usual flask of rusty nail in his back and we all had a toast right there and then. I managed to keep the ball in play for the rest of the round and the drinks afterwards in the clubhouse weren't to expensive either considering!"

James Milne (European Club Swinger)

Club Swinger James Milne had his 'Shot in a Million' at the The Worcestershire Golf Club in April. Having just dropped two shots at the 7th, thanks to a thinned approach into the cross stream short of the green, James was not feeling best pleased when he approached the 180 yard 8th.

Taking his hybrid iron, he hit a low drive which landed short.  Despite the soft ground, due to the low flight the ball skipped forward, ran up the steep bank onto the raised green and rolled with a medium break across the green and into the hole!

Says James, "I was slightly dumbfounded. My playing partners were shocked and then I said, well that gets me my two dropped shots back and I have a shot on the hole as it is stroke index 14!"  Deciding to put the ball into his bag and keep it as a memento of his first hole-in-one, James realised it really was his lucky day as the clubhouse bar was not very full.  Adds James "As most people already had a drink the majority accepted a half.  Some declined (driving) and a couple had mugs of coffee and so the bill was less than £20.  I was very relieved!!"

Jim Fraser (European Club Swinger)

During May, Club Swinger Jim Fraser shot his first ever hole in one after acing the 107 yard 11th hole at Turnhouse Golf Club, Edinburgh.

Says Jim "Only the top half of the flag is visible but I knew that the wedge I hit was going to be very close and my playing partner said on the tee “that’s in the hole!”. I walked quickly up to the green knowing that one of my two playing partners had missed the green so there should have been two balls on the green. There was only one so my heart skipped a beat as I walked up to look into the hole and see my ball nestling in there. It would have been nice to see it go in but I’ll take it!"

Sadly Jim had a bit of bad news at the next hole! Adds Jim "I went to the 12th tee and without thinking I used the same ball and proceeded to duck hook it left into thick grass and immediately lost the "hole in one" ball."

Summing up Jim says "A medal win with two lost balls, a hole in one, a huge putt from off the green and a birdie sand save. Easily my most memorable round of golf in the forty odd years I’ve been playing. I bought drinks in the bar and left a bottle of single malt for those coming in later. My joy was only slightly tempered by the fact that my golf insurance had run out on May 1st and I had not bothered to renew it."

Colin McCluskey (European Club Swinger)

Club Swinger Colin McCluskey had his 'Shot in a Million' at the Binny Golf Club, Scotland, in June. Colin managed to achieve his hole in one on the 155 yard 8th hole, despite thinning his tee shot.

Says Colin "After carefully selecting an 8 iron, and taking into account the breeze that was blowing over my right shoulder, I pictured the shot, took aim and swung at the ball. As we watched the ball disappear over the front edge of the green one of my playing partners made the comment that the ball had a real chance of ending up close to the flag, but because of the slope on the green we couldn’t see where it had finished.

Colin couldn't believe his luck as he approached the green. Adds Colin "I was amazed that it had happened on this particular hole as I seemed to have developed a mental block when playing it recently and hitting the green in regulation has proved nigh on impossible".

Even more bizarrely, adds Colin "As I was putting my gear into the boot of my car, I bent down to change my shoes and realised that I hadn’t put my golf shoes on and had played the entire round in a pair of flat leather soled shoes."
