Season Two Final - 30 March 2006
Swinging in the Rain at Manor House!
Club Swinger David Lister and Fun Swinger Keith Eustace-Pedlar took the big prizes at Manor House Golf Club in the Season Two Final on Thursday (30 March).
Forty finalists made up of the Season's top performers battled their way through, at times, torrential rain in a bid to win the coveted title of Season Two Champion. Competing over 18 holes of Stableford on a remarkably well presented course, the players were also treated to post-round massages courtesy of the Virgin Atlantic In Flight Beauty Therapists and a delicious lunch.
Despite no one claiming the Hole-in-One prize of a Volvo C70 Convertible, there were many more incredible prizes up for grabs. The Longest Drive went to Season One winner John Tanner, who hit a 286 yard drive on the 6th hole. John won a Callaway Big Bertha Ti 454 Driver. Nearest the Pin on the 17th went to Season Two Club Swinger Bob Scott from Buckinghamshire. Bob had finished the season top of the leaderboard and walked away from the final with an Odyssey White Hot Putter for his tee shot which landed just 3ft 6ins from the pin. Fun Swinger Bill Johnson from Durham took the Straightest Drive competition on the 12th hole and won a signed Ian Poulter golf bag courtesy of GolfPunk.
Finishing fifth in this Season's Fun Swingers Final was Gary Henderson from Essex with 26 points winning on a countback from Lesley Champion & Mike Sheldon. Gary won a GolfPunk umbrella. Fourth was Mike Pennick of Oxford who took home a £25 Froghair voucher and a GolfPunk cap for his score of 29pts.
Third was Season One Finalist Tim Butler who scored 31pts and won a Callaway Classic Travel Cover and a £50 Froghair voucher. Runner-Up was Edinburgh's Jim Fraser who had driven down for the Final and still managed to shoot 32 points. Jim won two Virgin Atlantic economy tickets to the destination of his choice, a return fourball at Manor House (another long drive beckons!) and a GolfPunk shirt.
However, Keith Eustace-Pedlar, from France, scored 35 points to walk away with the Fun Swingers title for Season Two. Keith, who only took up the game again this season after an enforced break through injury, won a pair of Premium Economy tickets to a Virgin Atlantic destination of his choice, a Callaway Big Bertha Trolley Bag and a £100 Froghair voucher. Keith has been one of the most loyal Swingers this season submitting on average 3 scores a week, and these scores have seen a dramatic improvement over the season. Keith's fun handicap dropped from 28 to 25 as his performances improved but there is no doubt he saved his best performance for last.
Says Keith, "Having played twice a week throughout the winter, I was quite used to playing in heavy rain, wind and freezing conditions. In fact the level of concentration rises as you are playing not just the course but the elements as well. I cannot thank my playing partner Carole Bedingfield enough as although not playing as well as I believe she can, she stuck with me knowing that if she gave up I would have to as well. I would also like to thank Virgin-Atlantic and their staff, all the sponsors, and the staff at The Manor Golf Club for what had to be one of the most exiting days of my life. I would also like to mention the members at the Golf de Barthe who made me feel so welcome when I started. I am hoping to persuade a couple of them to join the summer league."
Finishing fifth in this Season's Club Swingers Final was Season One winner John Tanner from Ireland with 31 points winning on a countback from Barrie Morris and Jo Williamson. John won a GolfPunk umbrella. Fourth was Alan Wilms-Jones of Yorkshire who took home a £25 Froghair voucher and a GolfPunk cap for his score of 32pts.
Third was Steve Collingwood from Reading who also scored 32pts and won, on a count back, a Callaway Cargo Duffel Bag and a £50 Froghair voucher. Runner-Up was Hampshire's Douglas Butler who scored 34pts. Douglas won two Virgin Atlantic economy tickets to the destination of his choice, a return fourball at Manor House and a GolfPunk shirt.
However, David Lister from Essex, scored 36 points to walk away with the Club Swingers title for Season Two. David won a pair of Premium Economy tickets to a Virgin Atlantic destination of his choice, a Callaway Big Bertha Trolley Bag and a £100 Froghair voucher. David also generously bid £500 in a blind auction to win a Virgin Atlantic Ryder Cup shirt signed by the victorious European Ryder Cup team of 2004. The money goes to the deserving Riders for Health charity.
Says David of his victory, "I was very surprised to win on Thursday, but obviously very happy. It made playing through the winter and suffering the cold weekend mornings worthwhile. I would like to thank Virgin Atlantic and the sponsors for setting up a great day at Manor House Golf Club. I can't wait for the summer season to commence."
Both Keith and David will be defending their titles in Season Three which starts at the end of this month. We hope that you will all be taking part again in the quest for a place in next Season's final.
Thanks again for all your support in Season Two. Happy Swinging!
